Gandhi or Commando..?:The Sri Lankan Answer

The three decade terrorism in Sri Lanka has come to an end when the Sri Lankan troops had wiped out the entire Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam(LTTE) leadership. Today, terrorism is a matter of yesterday as far as Sri Lanka is concerned. All we have to do now is to hail Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa, the Sri Lankan president and whose determination to eliminate terrorism from the Island nation.

Yes ofcourse it could be bad news for most of the political parties in Tamil Nadu. But I expect our national leadership wouldn't be a echo chamber of this opportunistic politicians. There are reports that India told Colombo that it should address the root cause of the conflict. I agree, India has to play a great role in Sri Lanka eventhough Velupillai Prabakaran was trained by Indian Intelligence(allegations?). But it is favourable for India to address its own security problems than that of Sri Lankan's.

Why is India too much worried about Sri Lankan Tamils rather than Kashmiri Pandits?(see the dirty vote bank politics of Indian politicians!). We have a big stick in our eye-Kashmir. I think one is eligible for giving remedies soon after being cured!

No one can deny that it was V. Prabakaran's armed struggle that focussed international attention on the desperate plight of Sri Lankan Tamils. There are allegations that India had role behind the formaton of LTTE. LTTE stood for the equal rights for Tamil in Sri Lanka. Then what went wrong? V.Prabakaran's demand for a separate Tamil Eelam was not a smooth going one. LTTE clashed even with the Indian Peace Keeping Force in Sri Lanka which came to protect the Tamils from the Sinhala extremists. Prabakaran became enemy no. one of India after the assasination of
Rajiv Gandhi, former Prime Minister of India on may 21,1991.

We witnessed the dawn of a terrorist leader whose caders wore cyanide around their neck. Prabakaran was the mastermind behind the suicide bombers and child conscription.Nothing can justify the massacre of Tamil Muslims and innocent Sinhala civilians by the LTTE and Prabakaran and which clearly shows that rather than addressing the basic problems of Sri Lankan Tamils he wanted to be the dictator of his pipe-dream of Eelam.

Under the determined leadership of Mr. Rajapaksa, who sworned in as the President of Sri Lanka everything started changing. Despite pleas from Barack Obama, Ban Ki-Moon, Indian Authorities and World leaders, Colombo has zealously pursued its objective of wiping out the separtist LTTE once and for all. Rajapaksa created history by eradicating the terrorist menace from the Sri Lankan soil eventhough he invited criticism from all around the world by banning the media from the war zone. I believe our leaders will have to study one or two lessons from him.

The jubilant Rajpaksa has a huge task ahead-the rehalibation of the Tamil civilians.Rather than criticising, India must extened our fullest support to the government of Sri Lanka in undertaking the reconstruction and rehalibation efforts. It is the time to focus on the Sri Lankan's Tamil community led to ruination over three decades on Prabakaran's pipe-dream of Tamil Eelam. I hope problems can be solved by protecting the language rights of Tamils and give devolution of power. Rajpaksa's tamil speech is a step forward.!

well adarsh..dialogue is always preferred to fighting, sometimes democratic governments must use armed force to defend themselves from terrorists. This impressive victory should remind Americans, Pakistanis, and Israelis that defeating homicidal fanatics and terrorist movements is possible and necessary.
